Events up and coming

On the Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th of April 2011, between 60 and 80 of the UK’s best urban/graffiti artists will converge on Pleasureland for the largest event of its type in the North West. Painting pre-erected boards, the artists involved will demonstrate the skills required to produce amazing pieces of art using various techniques.

One of the first of many events to be held in town over the summer months as part of Southport Arts Festival, kick starting the proceedings in a unique and memorable way. Sefton’s youth centres will be showcasing musical talent from local area which is not only a great chance for the singers, bands and MC’s to get up on an open air stage and perform but also for the ill fated Youth Service to show how much help, support and encouragement they have given to local children over the years.

Internationally renowned street artist Ben Eine whose work was given to President Obama by David Cameron and who has painted walls in such places as London, South Africa, Hong Kong, India, San Francisco and New York to name but a few will also be bringing his unique style of graffiti to the North West for the first time, painting at several locations around Southport over the course of the event.

The Write4Gold pre-battles with Liverpool versus Preston and Manchester versus Leeds, with the winners progressing to the Write4Gold UK Finals being held at Pleasureland on Saturday 25th June 2011.

In addition to taking over the whole Pleasureland site for two days, several artists will be donating some time to teach/mentor young people in the various aspects of urban art including how to create a stencil and how to produce an attractive piece. The ‘Have a Go’ area will be held at Paint Pots Ceramic Studio on Hill Street, which will also be home to a gallery exhibition of urban art where a selection of affordable pieces will be on sale.
